Our service involves installation of a small, round, 10-inch, 1.5 lb antenna on the roof. We will install this antenna on the roof by attaching it to a vent pipe or chimney on the roof which means that typically there is no penetration or drilling of any kind on the roof.
In a standard installation, we run an Ethernet cable from the antenna to the exterior wall of the room in which you want your router. (We run the cable down a water drain pipe down the side of the unit and make a small hole in the exterior wall near your router and into your home.) The hole will be completely sealed so there is no risk for any water damage.
Alternatively, if you have a central panel (usually in the master bedroom), we can run the cable into the attic through a vent and wall fish the cable into the central panel. This installation is considered “custom” and will incur a fee of $99-199.
The line is terminated with an RJ-45 connector. Most people connect this line to their wireless router. The wireless router will broadcast a wifi signal throughout your home that you use to connect your devices. If you have a large home, you will want to have more than one router which creates a “mesh” network, like the Google WiFi Router.
If you have devices that need a hard line, you will want to connect the router to a Gigabit switch like this. From the switch, you can run the lines to anywhere you want in the house (be aware this can get expensive to have it done professionally).
